The Westminster West School is located just outside of the tiny village of Westminster West. Our current population includes thirty-one students (2008) in the first through fourth grades, two multiage classroom teachers, a Special Education/Consolidated Federal Program Reading and Math teacher, a classroom paraprofessional and a one-to-one paraprofessional. Most of the children who attend the West West School live in the geographic area of the West community.

The Westminster West School is a two-room schoolhouse with children placed in two groups: youngers (first and second graders) and olders (third and fourth graders). The school engenders much community and parental involvement and support in daily activities. Community volunteers started an organic garden at the school and continue to work with the teachers to incorporate the garden into the curriculum. Volunteers also read with students in the classrooms several days a week. The parent group is working, in stages, to develop a natural playground, including clearing the woodland bordering the school so that children can play in the woods yet still be seen by the adults in charge. In 2001, a third room was added onto the existing building. This room serves as the school's 3000 book library and provides space for physical education in inclement weather, art, music, dance and social skills activities. |
