The Westminster Schools Summer Programs are underway (Monday July 14)! Children in grades 1-6 are attending the summer camp - funded by the Holt Beyond the School Day grant. The daily program begins with breakfast - provided free to all children in the community to age 18, through the Vermont Child and Nutrition Summer FEEDS Program. (Adults can join children for meals at a low cost.) The camp runs four days a week from 8AM to 12:45 Monday -Thursday. The last day of camp is August 14. Lunch is served daily at 12 noon. Again, it is
free to all children - and parents can join for low cost. We do appreciate anyone not attending the Camp or Academic Programs calling ahead so we are prepared for the number of diners! You can reach Kim Kinney at the Westminster Center School kitchen by calling 722-3241 ext. 206.
Tim Eno is this year's Camp Director. Tim has worked for the Kurn Hattin Summer Camps for thirteen years and is a teacher at the Bellows Falls Middle School. He is joined by two staff members - Josh Ferenc and Cory Haskell. The organizational work - registration, fees, and program structure is once again handled by coordinator Elaine Gordon.
Monday also brings the beginning of our federally funded academic programs in reading and mathematics. The programs are open to all children registered in the Westminster Schools from first - sixth grade. Our teachers this summer are Dena Weiss-Tisman and Erica Comstock. Children attending the summer camp may also attend the academic sessions.
Our Extended School Year programs are also underway, providing specialized instruction to children from various grades.
On July 21st our kindergartend transition program begins. It runs a similar schedule to the Summer Camp. Children entering kindergarten in the fall are invited to attend this program as part of our introducing them to school. Teachers Vicky Peters, Margo Ghia and Paula Borochoff are supported by Dempsey Potter and our Early Education Outreach Coordinator Anne Briccetti.
Enjoy the summer - and we look forward to seeing you around the school!
